Meet Northampton residents and volunteers Molly, Polly, Diana, and Sue. They run a weekly “Knit and Natter” craft group and a home cooked community lunch twice a month at Leicester Street Community Hub!

The group started way back in 2013 after speaking to their local community development officer with a request to set up their own craft group for residents to meet, create and socialise with one another. With support from NPH Community Development, the group became constituted and successfully applied for community funding to buy an oven and launch their homemade lunches.

The group care about their community and want to reduce social isolation. They previously helped out the Princes Trust decorate and refurbish our community hubs. They also knit items of clothing for the homeless at Oasis House and to the premature babies unit at the Northampton General Hospital!

“As the name suggests [knit and natter], we like knitting and we like nattering and we want people to socialise and come along [to our events]! All the decorations [on the tables] are made by us. We do all sorts of things; I guess you could say we’re a crafts group open to everyone.”  - Polly.

Their two course home cooked lunch, which takes place on a Wednesday twice a month, is popular with residents all across town. The lunch costs £3.50 with the money going towards ingredients for next time as well as day trips out for all the residents to enjoy! Sausage and Mash was on the menu today.
