Last week, Spring Boroughs shop owners Mr and Mrs Patel opened the doors to a brand new premises across the road from the business they have run together for the past 20 years.

Nicky’s News was situated next to vacant homes in Little Cross Street. These have been demolished and are set to be replaced with nine 2 bedroom maisonettes and 9 one bedroom apartments as part of NPH's regeneration programme in the area.

As part of the consultation in Spring Boroughs, we listened to residents’ concerns and agreed to extend St Peter’s House to provide a new shop for the Patels.

Mrs Patel said: “I am so happy that I am able to carry on serving the customers I have got to know over the last 20 years. The new shop is even better than I hoped it would be. NPH have gone out of their way to include us when developing the shop plans, they considered our safety and always asked our opinions. I owe so much to my customers for helping this happen and I would like to thank every one of them for their support.”

Development in the area  will provide 34 new build homes, including 25 much needed family homes. Residents in Council owned blocks of flats will also benefit from improvement works and outdoor spaces will be revamped.

Mike Kay, NPH Chief Executive said of the programme:

“I’m delighted to see this work in progress after extensive consultation and partnership with the Spring Boroughs community. I would like to thank the community for their dedication and co-operation throughout this process so far. It’s inspiring to work with such passionate people who care about improving services for all.”
