We are committed to helping people live independently in their home.
Do you, or anyone living at your home, have a disability and find it difficult to get into and around your home or use some of the facilities in your home? We may be able to help by adapting your home to fit your needs.
Some properties cannot be easily adapted, perhaps because of the design or location. In these cases, we will work with you to find a more suitable home for you to move to.
What we provide
We provide advice about:
- equipment and/or adaptations for your home to support your needs
- alternatives if adaptation is not possible
Some typical fixtures and fittings we provide include:
- grab rails and banisters
- level access to your home
- taps and/or handles if yours are difficult to turn
- kitchen and bathroom alterations
We will assess your needs. In some cases we will also refer your situation to an occupational therapist for further evaluation to ensure we provide the best support we can for you and your family.
We aim to complete all minor adaptations within 28 days of your assessment.
Who we can help
In order to receive help from the Adaptations Service, you or anyone living at your home must:
- be a council tenant with Northampton Partnership Homes
- find normal daily living tasks more difficult to carry out
Permission to adapt your home
Works to your home normally require our permission. We will only refuse permission if your home is not suited to the work that needs to be done.
If the work is outside, such as a ramp, you may need planning permission from the council. We will be happy to help you with this.
Paying for adaptations
We will pay the cost of any minor and most major adaptations.
