Influence us
The Service Quality Committee is a committee of the NPH Board, and is made up of 10 tenants and leaseholders, two of which are tenant Board members. The role of the committee is to challenge our performance, ensure that the resident voice is heard in influencing the decision making throughout NPH, and to feed the ‘resident’ voice to the board.
The SQC will consider performance and satisfaction with a particular focus on TSM’s. They will also regularly consider complaints and other feedback and consider ways to improve.
The SQC are encouraged to give their views and look at our services through residents’ eyes helping to improve and change services for all. Where appropriate the SQC will commission scrutiny exercises to support their consideration of specific subjects.
Our residents helped us to design the SQC. Several sessions were held where we asked the groups to focus on using their experiences as NPH resident and to think of new ideas and new ways of thinking.
Meet the members
John is an NPH resident and current member of the SQC. Here’s what he told us about his time as a resident and his experiences on the committee so far:
I have been a NPH resident for 9 years.
Last year as a tenant, I decided to get involved with NPH by becoming a member of the Service Quality Committee. Since then, I have also become a tenant Board Member of NPH.
The Committee consists of tenants from all over Northampton and each one is able to contribute fully based on their various tenancy and life experiences.
In simple terms, we scrutinise the work of NPH and how it impacts on their tenants, through Task and Finish groups.
We are currently looking at ASB, neighbourhoods, repairs and many other aspects of the factors that affect the quality of life for a tenant.
Joining NPH, I did not think I knew that much about Social Housing. However, I quickly realised that 20 plus years working in Social Services, Health Authorities and the voluntary sector meant that I did have an insight into housing.
Most days I am out and about in the community, and through my housing eyes I’m always asking questions about health and safety, estate maintenance and accommodation issues.
With NPH I attend what are called Engagement Cafes where tenants are given the opportunity to discuss with specialist teams their housing problems. The best part of this is when I meet a tenant who has previously attended, and they say ‘that was a great experience and afterwards NPH sorted out my problem’.
Personally, I have started travelling to other parts of Northampton and getting involved where there are NPH properties to increase my overall knowledge.
Recently, I was at a Housing Conference, where tenants involved with their local Housing providers, like I am, talked about their experience and accomplishments.
I went away supercharged full of new ideas and a fresh focus on housing.
I am so glad that I joined NPH representing other tenants, everyday trying to improve my involvement and attempting to make tenants lives that much better.
Service Quality Committee Member Vacancies
The committee is made up of ten tenants and leaseholders and two positions have recently become available. There are currently no vacancies on the Service Quality Committee.
