Red heat health alert as high temperatures expected
Northamptonshire residents are being asked to take extra care this week as temperatures are forecast to reach well above 30 degrees.
The UK Health Security Agency and Met Office has issued a red heat health alert for Northamptonshire. The red heat health alert is in effect from 1AM on Wednesday 24 June until 11PM on Thursday 25 June, 2026. It applies to the whole of the East Midlands and other parts of England and Wales.
Whilst some of us might enjoy these hotter temperatures, for many it can cause a serious risk to their health. Below we have shared a reminder of how to take care of yourself and others during this time.
- Keep your home cool by closing curtains or blinds during the day – especially sun-facing windows
- Drink plenty of water during the day. Try not to drink too much alcohol
- Stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm, when it is hottest. Find shade if you have to go out
- Avoid hard exercise or heavy work when the weather is very hot
