The Government is currently consulting on a policy change that affects social housing tenants nationally.  It is proposed that tenants with a household income of £30,000 and above (£40,000 in London) will be required to pay an increased level of rent – the policy is referred to as “pay to stay”, a term you may have heard in the media recently.

The consultation period is open until 20th November and is being conducted by the department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG).  You can find more information on the gov.uk website.  If you would like to have your say, you can e-mail DCLG directly on paytostay@communities.gsi.gov.uk or send a written response to:

NPH would also advise that we are in discussion with our landlord, Northampton Borough Council with a view to submitting a joint response to the consultation
